“Freedom Fighters“ is a third-person shooter video game. In the game, the main character, Christopher Stone, a plumber from New York, must rise from a simple citizen to become the leader of the New York Resistance and free the city from Soviet invaders.

1. The game features 18 tracks in its soundtrack. The soundtrack was also released separately and received several awards. The composer of the game is Jesper Kyd.

2. The game includes various vehicles, such as the Mi-24 attack helicopters, the T-90 tank, the Ka-27 and GAZ-3937 “Vodnik“ transport helicopters that deploy infantry. The Su-47 fighter jets appear in the opening cinematic, and the BTR-90 is featured in the demo version and the first gameplay footage. The Ural truck, present in the game, serves as static scenery and only moves in cutscenes.

3. The multiplayer mode was removed from the PC version of the game.

4. The player can carry a detonator, a pistol or a Magnum revolver, one primary weapon, 10 Molotov cocktails, 10 grenades, 4 C4 charges, and 8 medkits simultaneously, similar to a pack mule.

5. The game’s storyline is based on an alternate history where the Soviet Union gradually conquered all of Europe and part of America after winning World War II, leading to the occupation of the United States.

6. Most of the objects in the game are not destructible, but as the game progresses, the environment changes. The city gradually deteriorates, with piles of garbage and partially destroyed buildings. Seasons change, with colder weather, falling leaves, freezing water, snowfall, and soldiers dressing more warmly. The main character also changes his appearance, from a jumpsuit and t-shirt to ripped insulated pants, long-sleeved shirts, and jackets with hoods starting from the 4th chapter.

7. The game consists of 7 regular levels and 1 bonus level, which can only be unlocked after completing the game on the highest or second-highest difficulty setting.

8. The game received highly positive reviews, with an average score of 85 out of 100.

9. “Freedom Fighters“ was released on personal computers, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Nintendo GameCube.

10. The game engine used is called the Glacier engine.

11. On April 6, 2004, Eidos UK announced plans for a sequel to the game. However, IO Interactive announced a new project, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, casting doubt on the release of the second installment. In late 2007, an IO representative mentioned in an interview about Kane & Lynch: Dead Men that the company still planned a sequel to Freedom Fighters.

12. In 2020, IO Interactive re-released “Freedom Fighters“ on PC, 17 years after its initial release. The game was updated for Windows 10 and made available in digital stores.
